The government circulated three bills Tuesday to increase Lok Sabha strength from 543 to 850 members, enable fresh delimitation based on 2011 Census figures, and implement one-third women's reservation in Parliament and state Assemblies. The constitutional amendment removes the decades-old freeze on seat readjustment pegged to 1971 Census. A Delimitation Commission headed by a Supreme Court judge will redraw constituency boundaries. Women's reservation takes effect after delimitation, with seats rotating every cycle and lasting 15 years.
