American journalist Shelly Kittleson, 49, was released Tuesday in Baghdad after being held for nine days by Iran-backed militia Kataib Hezbollah. She was abducted March 31 from a street corner. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed her release Wednesday. The militia stated the release was in appreciation of outgoing Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and demanded Kittleson leave Iraq immediately. Reports indicate several detained militia members were freed in exchange.
