What Happened
Uttar Pradesh's BJP government is constructing a second B R Ambedkar memorial in Lucknow's Aishbagh, targeting July completion before 2027 state elections. The 5,493.52 square metre Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre will feature a 25-foot statue, auditorium, library, museum, and research facilities. Initial cost of Rs 45.04 crore has expanded to over Rs 100 crore. The project aims to boost BJP's Dalit outreach following reduced performance in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
