Israel and Lebanon agreed Wednesday to launch direct negotiations to end hostilities with Hezbollah following US-mediated talks in Washington. The announcement came after a ceasefire between the US and Iran. Over 2,100 people have died in Israel's campaign across Lebanon, including 1,702 men, 254 women, and 168 children. Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Shiite militant group, joined the conflict March 2 after the US and Israel killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28.
