Ukraine’s veterans’ theatre turns war wounds into catharsis

What Happened

Ukraine's Veterans' Theatre, founded in 2024, trains servicemen, wives, and widows as playwrights in a four-month program. Participants write autobiographical plays about war wounds, amputations, captivity, and grief. The plays are performed at graduation, then staged at other Ukrainian theatres. Directors say creating and performing these works provides therapeutic catharsis for authors, actors, and audiences experiencing war trauma.
