What Happened
A 2023-24 CAG audit revealed systemic failures in Haryana's construction worker welfare scheme involving forged work slips and fake documentation. Between 2017-18 and 2022-23, Rs 1,007.56 crore was disbursed to 2,18,901 beneficiaries across 4,053 establishments. In six test-checked districts, 45.54% of sampled benefits went to ineligible workers. The state acknowledged findings but took no action until launching a probe recently.
