Tamil Nadu polls in numbers: DMK keeps faith in MLAs, AIADMK leans on those who fell short in 2021

What Happened

Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK alliance renominated two-thirds of sitting MLAs while dropping underperformers from 2021 elections. The opposition AIADMK alliance, however, retained more candidates who lost five years ago. DMK won 159 of 234 Assembly seats in 2021, establishing clear majority. Current alliances adjusted seat allocations with new entrant DMDK contesting ten seats.
