
India has expanded medical education and healthcare infrastructure significantly since 2014. MBBS seats increased from 50,000 to 120,000, while postgraduate seats grew from 30,000 to 80,000. The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana established 22 AIIMS institutes across regions. New AIIMS treated crores of outpatients and millions of inpatients, reducing out-of-pocket healthcare costs. The government allocated ₹11,000 crore for healthcare in Budget 2026-27.
