India's Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, passed in September 2023, reserves one-third of Lok Sabha and state assembly seats for women. Currently, women hold only 13.6 percent of Lok Sabha seats and 9 percent of state assembly positions. Local government reservations since 1992 show positive results: 46 percent of local representatives are women, with improved outcomes in health, education, and sanitation. The legislation aims to align political representation with women's economic and educational participation.
