A 31-year-old former US Army veteran, Shamar Elkins, killed eight children across three homes in Shreveport, Louisiana early Sunday. Seven victims were his own children, the youngest under two years old. Elkins died after a police-involved shooting following a car chase. He had prior weapons charges from 2019.
