Md Daud Ali, a retired Indian Army Havildar from Murshidabad district, was removed from West Bengal's voter roll despite serving 21 years, including in the 1999 Kargil war. A spelling error in his father's name caused his deletion. His wife remains the only family member on the electoral roll. Over 27 lakh voter names were deleted statewide. Ali says appellate tribunals, meant to address such cases, remain non-functional.
