What Happened
Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah announced Lok Sabha expansion from 550 to 850 seats on April 16, 2026. Each state receives 50% additional seats while maintaining 1971 population-based proportions established in 1973. Tamil Nadu gains 20 seats, Karnataka 14, Kerala 10, Andhra Pradesh 13, and Telangana 9 respectively.
