The Union government is advancing a Constitution amendment bill for women's reservation alongside a delimitation bill in Parliament from April 16. The women's quota reserves one-third of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats for women. Critics argue delimitation, which reallocates Lok Sabha seats based on Census data, is being bundled with women's reservation as political cover. The delimitation would benefit BJP-dominated states. The 2021 Census was delayed to 2026-27, allowing delimitation based on that Census instead of 2031.
