Punjab Cabinet approved amendments to anti-sacrilege legislation on Saturday, proposing life imprisonment and fines between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 25 lakh for sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led the meeting approving the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Bill 2026. The government states existing laws lack sufficient deterrence.
