Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, warned that North Korea is significantly increasing its ability to produce nuclear weapons. The country operates multiple uranium enrichment facilities, including one at Yongbyon that was reactivated in 2021 after purported decommissioning. Grossi reported rapid increases in reactor operations and activation of additional facilities. North Korea is estimated to possess a few dozen warheads. The agency observed construction of a new enrichment facility similar to Yongbyon's. IAEA inspectors have been denied access since 2009.
