What Happened
Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar announced that nine additional Forensic Science Laboratories will become operational within one to two years. Currently, four FSLs function in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Rajgir. The State has appointed 102 Assistant Directors and Senior Scientific Assistants. FSL services have expanded from 700-800 cases in 2012-13 to 18,000 cases annually. The BNSS mandate requires forensic experts at crime scenes for offences punishable by seven years or more imprisonment.
