The National Highway Authority of India directed all FASTag-issuing banks to validate Vehicle Registration Numbers linked to FASTags following complaints that scanner-detected numbers mismatched actual license plates. NHAI will blacklist FASTags with incorrect VRNs. This verification is critical for implementing Multi-Lane Free Flow tolling systems, which allow vehicles to pass toll gates without stopping. Accurate VRN mapping prevents commuters from avoiding toll payments in barrier-less systems.
