The UN's International Organization for Migration reported 7,904 deaths and disappearances on migration routes in 2025, down from 9,197 in 2024. Sea routes to Europe accounted for over 40 percent of fatalities. Many victims perished in undetected shipwrecks. Total deaths since 2014 exceed 82,000, affecting approximately 340,000 family members directly.
