A trawler carrying approximately 280 Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi nationals capsized in the Andaman Sea on April 4, with nearly 250 people feared missing, according to the UN. The vessel departed from Teknaf, Bangladesh, heading toward Malaysia when heavy winds, rough seas, and overcrowding caused it to sink. The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued nine people on April 9 near the Andaman Islands. Rohingyas regularly attempt dangerous sea journeys fleeing Myanmar's civil war and persecution.
