The US State Department cancelled green cards of Seyed Eissa Hashemi, son of 1979 Iran hostage crisis spokesperson Masoumeh Ebtekar, along with his wife and son. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated the family should not have received US residency. They were granted visas in 2014 and permanent resident status in 2016 under the Obama administration. The family is now in custody and faces deportation.
