India's government has directed all state and central authorities to stop issuing environmental clearances for new HFC production beyond December 31, 2027. This aligns with India's 2021 ratification of the Kigali amendment to the Montreal Protocol. India committed to phased HFC reduction: 10 percent by 2032, rising to 85 percent by 2047. HFCs replaced ozone-damaging CFCs but are potent greenhouse gases. The Kigali amendment targets avoiding 0.5 degree Celsius global warming by 2100.
