Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court retired Wednesday following a stalled impeachment bid over his December 2024 speech at an RSS-affiliated event. He made controversial remarks about India running per majority wishes and allegedly used derogatory language toward Muslims. Fifty-four Opposition MPs filed an impeachment notice citing hate speech. The motion failed after only forty-four MPs authenticated signatures, falling short of fifty required. Justice Yadav declined to apologize publicly.
