Iraq's parliament elected Nizar Amedi as president with 227 votes, ending a political deadlock. Nominated by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Amedi defeated independent candidate Muthanna Amin Nader, who received 15 votes. He becomes Iraq's sixth president since Saddam Hussein's removal in 2003. Amedi pledged to work with all government branches and commit to "Iraq First" principles. Prime minister selection remains pending, with the Coordination Framework nominating former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki amid US concerns.
