Iran is preparing to execute Bita Hemmati, a female protester convicted for her role in anti-government demonstrations, according to the opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran. She is reportedly the first woman facing execution linked to recent unrest. Hemmati and four others have been sentenced to death on charges including using explosives, attending gatherings, and disrupting national security. Her husband and two others also received death sentences. Property confiscation occurred. The demonstrations began in late December with shopkeeper strikes before spreading nationwide.
