What Happened

Fusion power startup Inertia Enterprises signed three agreements with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to commercialize laser-based fusion reactors. Inertia, which raised $450 million in February, will license nearly 200 patents and collaborate on developing advanced lasers and fuel targets. The National Ignition Facility achieved fusion breakeven in 2022 using 192 laser beams to compress fuel pellets, producing more energy than required.
