Urologist Jitesh Patel and his practice Advanced Urology Inc. agreed to pay $14 million to settle healthcare fraud allegations in the United States. Federal authorities alleged the practice billed Medicare and Medicaid for unnecessary procedures and services never performed. Investigations by FBI and Department of Health and Human Services found patients underwent unnecessary device implantations and diagnostic tests. Whistleblowers will receive $2.94 million from the settlement. The case does not constitute admission of liability.
