What Happened

Two tunnel boring machines weighing 6,000 tonnes are being transported nightly from Jawaharlal Nehru Port to Vikhroli and Savali for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor. The German-supplied machines, costing Rs 250 crore each, arrived March 23. A 219-trailer convoy moves between 11 pm and 5 am, covering maximum 10 km nightly. All shipments expected to leave port by April 12. Assembly will take 97 days.
