What Happened

Delhi High Court directed India's Copyright Office to decide within eight weeks whether an AI system can claim sole authorship of artwork. American scientist Stephen Thaler seeks copyright for "A Recent Entrance to Paradise," created by his AI system DABUS. The Copyright Office previously stated only natural persons can be authors. Thaler argues DABUS's autonomy makes it the true creator. A hearing is scheduled for April 27, 2025.
