Google Maps can now write captions for your photos using AI

What Happened

Google is expanding Google Maps' contribution features using Gemini AI. The system automatically generates captions for user-submitted photos and videos about places. Users can edit or remove suggested captions. The feature launches in English on iOS in the U.S., expanding globally and to Android later. Google also improved photo discovery, contribution tracking, and updated Local Guide badges to encourage community participation across 500 million contributors.
