ISRO conducted an air drop test of the Gaganyaan Crew Module on Friday off Satish Dhawan Space Centre. The Indian Air Force's Chinook helicopter dropped a simulated 5.7-tonne crew module from 3km altitude over the Bay of Bengal. Ten parachutes deployed in sequence within 90 seconds, gradually reducing velocity for safe splashdown. The Indian Navy recovered the module. The test validated parachute-based deceleration systems for the upcoming uncrewed Gaganyaan mission.
