What Happened

SkyMapper launched a dedicated Avalanche-based network called SkyMapper L1 to cryptographically record and verify telescope observations worldwide. The system, termed Proof of Space Observation, creates tamper-resistant digital records of astronomical data from telescopes and sensors. The SETI Institute contributes live observational data. Observations are cryptographically signed at capture, time-stamped, and stored across decentralized networks with blockchain fingerprints. Smart contracts manage data access, allowing sensitive data privacy while enabling open scientific sharing.
