What Happened

Three years after Sudan's April 2023 war outbreak, 9 million people remain internally displaced. A Norwegian Refugee Council survey of 1,293 households across Sudan, Chad, and South Sudan found 90 percent lost homes, 75 percent lack income, and 80 percent skip meals regularly. Nearly 29 million Sudanese face acute hunger. Two-thirds report exhaustion after multiple displacements; 65 percent separated from families. Only 45 percent of displaced children attend school. Community aid-sharing persists but approaches breaking point.
