What Happened

Sudan's civil war since 2023 has killed over 40,000 people and displaced 14 million, about a quarter of the population. The conflict between the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has destroyed infrastructure, collapsed the economy by $6.4 billion in 2023 alone, and devastated agriculture and manufacturing. Industrial activity fell 90 percent. Even with peace by 2026, Sudan faces $18.8 billion in lost GDP through 2043.
