Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accused former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, and Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy of joining the BJP solely for political survival. He criticized them for previously opposing the RSS and Prime Minister Modi while outside the BJP. Siddaramaiah questioned their moral authority to criticize his government. He defended the Congress guarantee schemes as pro-poor and criticized the BJP as anti-poor and anti-Constitution.
