What Happened

A 31-year-old Pakistani man died of undiagnosed tuberculosis after over two years of detention at the Joint Interrogation Centre in Bhuj, Gujarat. He was apprehended by the Border Security Force on January 16, 2024, while attempting to cross the border illegally. Hearing- and speech-impaired, authorities could not communicate with him throughout his detention. He fell sick last week, was hospitalized, and died on April 12. Officials have contacted the Pakistan High Commission regarding his body.
