Dalit student’s death puts spotlight on caste, colour bias in Kannur college

What Happened

Nithin Raj R L, a 22-year-old Dalit first-year dental student at Kannur Dental College in Kerala, died after falling from a building on Friday. Following his death, allegations emerged that he faced caste and complexion-based humiliation from faculty members. Police registered cases under abetment of suicide and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. Two faculty members were suspended. Other students corroborated similar harassment claims. Police formed a special investigation team to probe the case.
