The unified Opposition defeated the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill 2026 on April 17, which aimed to redistribute Lok Sabha seats based on 2011 Census for women's reservation implementation. The bill secured 298 votes favoring versus 230 opposing, falling short of the required 352-vote two-thirds majority. Following the defeat, the government withdrew two linked legislations: the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill and the Delimitation Bill.
