China probes ‘malicious’ cyberbullying of teen diving champion Quan

What Happened

China's General Administration of Sport launched an investigation into cyberbullying targeting three-time Olympic gold medallist Quan Hongchan. The 19-year-old diver reported receiving malicious online attacks about her weight and faced immense pressure to diet. Quan previously considered retiring after Paris 2024 Olympics. Authorities reported the matter to police and rejected what they called abnormal fan culture targeting athletes and their families.
