Alexandre Ramagem, Brazil's former intelligence chief, was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Florida on Monday. He was convicted of involvement in a coup plot supporting ex-President Jair Bolsonaro and sentenced to 16 years in prison. Ramagem fled Brazil in September and illegally entered Guyana before traveling to the US. Brazil's government filed an extradition request on December 30, 2025. A Bolsonaro ally claims the detention resulted from a traffic stop, not the extradition request.
