The Bombay High Court indicated it will order a completely fresh election for the Asiatic Society's managing committee, including new nominations and voter verification. Founded in 1804, the society promotes research in history, archaeology, and literature. The court heard petitions challenging the Charity Commissioner's March 13 order deferring elections. The dispute involves eligibility of 1,467 newly enrolled members added after nominations were frozen. Justice Dubash suggested a practical resolution involving fresh elections with revised voter lists.
