Odisha's BJP government scrapped the Bhubaneswar Metro project citing operating losses and policy non-compliance. The previous BJD government initiated the 26-kilometer project estimated at Rs 6,300 crore. The cabinet terminated the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation agreement and regularized Rs 273.51 crore already spent. Officials cited financial burden and low ridership projections. BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi urged reconsideration, noting other Indian metros operate with subsidies.
