
Playback singer Asha Bhosle died at age 92 in Mumbai on Sunday. Working initially in her sister Lata Mangeshkar's shadow, Bhosle carved her own path through cabaret, rhythm-driven songs, and ghazals. She collaborated with composers OP Nayyar and RD Burman, earning her first National Award for Umrao Jaan after 30 years. She received Grammy nominations in 1997 and 2006. Bhosle's innovative vocal techniques and breath control expanded possibilities for female singers in Hindi film industry.
