Mumbai Suburban Railways received its first non-AC train with automatic door-closure system at Kurla car shed Monday. The train, manufactured by ICF Chennai, has 12 coaches with 5,698-passenger capacity. Certification trials will take three months before public rollout. The decision followed a June 2025 accident where five commuters died falling from overcrowded train footboards. The closed-door design aims to reduce fall deaths while maintaining affordability through lower fares.
