
Eight pilgrims from Karnataka died after a cement tanker collided head-on with their Bolero vehicle near Chilakaladona village in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, at 2:45 am Thursday. The vehicle carried pilgrims traveling to Mantralayam. Thirteen others were injured. Five died at the scene; three more died at the hospital. Police attributed the collision to rash and negligent driving by the tanker driver, Ramanna Basappa, 28, who reportedly escaped unhurt.
